Legionella Control Services

Three Counties Water were instructed by our client for their Healthcare Portfolio in North London and Essex to undertake Legionella Control Services for their properties. We carried out the Monthly visits covering around 8 Hospitals and Primary Care Centres. In order to complete statutory water hygiene monitoring, as recommended in ACoP L8 Guidance and HTM04-01 Part B.

The Problem:

Under HTM04-01 Part B the control of Legionella through thermal control is paramount. We identified poor hot water storage flow and return temperatures. As a result, the sentinel outlets failed to meet minimum guidance of 55°c degrees within one minute. We recommended undertaking a internal inspection and we identified the heat exchanger was heavilly scaled. As a short term solution we recommended weekly Legionella samples in accordance with current Guidance and undertaking an acid descale to remove any scale formation.

The Solution:

We undertook an acid descale of each cylinder and the subsequent results ensured that full thermal control of the hot water system has now been regained. This meant that the additional Legionella sampling could stop.
